Landscape Designer Breaks Digital Ground with App and Online Design Service

Landscape Designer Breaks Digital Ground with App and Online Design Service

With the Home Outside Design (HOD) app, users can mock up an existing property or create a dreamscape with more than 280 colorful, hand-drawn elements.

Saxtons River, VT (PRWEB) June 02, 2011

Today Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio (JMMDS) announced it is going digital by offering two online tools that make the landscape design process approachable and attainable for everyone. The first, the Home Outside Design (HOD) iPhone app, enables homeowners to “place the pieces” of their front and back yard landscapes; the other, a new online design service called Home Outside Design, gives cost-conscious clients with small properties design help from the experienced and creative professionals at JMMDS.

Both tools are based on Messervy’s book Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love (The Taunton Press), which has been changing the way Americans think about home landscapes since its release in 2009. This award-winning book is geared towards helping every homeowner jump-start a process for extending the presence of home out into the landscape by transforming a lackluster property into a beautiful and personal “home outside.”

“More people are realizing that home begins when you set foot on your property, not just when you enter your front door,” said Messervy. “By teaching homeowners and professionals about landscape design in my books, blog, app and design services, I’m empowering them to create the spaces they love and go outdoors to enjoy them.”

New Home Outside Design iPhone App Makes Landscape Design Fun and Easy; $ 2.99 at the iTunes App Store

Messervy’s Home Outside Design (HOD) app, created in collaboration with software design studio All Dreams Digital, is different from all other garden apps. It enables homeowners to select from more than 280 beautifully hand-drawn landscape elements and move them around on a virtual property. Users can “mock up” their own site, including locating their house and existing landscape features, and then add in a new shed, patio, deck, paths, planting beds, and landscape features such as pools, stones, and play structures.

The app also highlights “green” features such as clotheslines, vegetable gardens, solar panels, a green roof, and a compost bin. Homeowners can even e-mail their designs to friends or to the Home Outside Design (HOD) app Web site, where they might appear in an online slideshow of inspiring Home Outside Design creations. Besides being an excellent design tool, the Home Outside Design (HOD) app is fun, offering everyone an opportunity for creative play.

New Online Design Service Brings Landscape Design Home

Not everyone feels comfortable designing their own backyard, so Messervy and her team created the trademarked Home Outside Design service to help. Specially tailored to meet the needs of small-scale residential properties, Home Outside Design allows homeowners—no matter where they live—to access the award-winning design services of JMMDS in an interactive and cost-effective way.

How Home Outside Design Works: You measure. We design. You enjoy.

To begin the Home Outside Design process, JMMDS sends homeowners a Home Outside Design kit, complete with a Home Outside DVD, measuring tape, pencils and a workbook that walks them through the steps for measuring their property. The workbook includes questionnaires that help homeowners determine their “designer” personality and aesthetic preferences and uncover their significant landscape and nature experiences.

The result: two design plans drawn as bird’s eye views that map the flow and major landscape features of the property, including planting beds, walkways, seating areas, and special features. Once a preferred design is chosen, the homeowners can continue partnering with JMMDS to create the finished landscape, work with a local landscape designer or contractor to develop the property, or execute the design on their own.

Home Outside Design plans start at $ 500 for a front or backyard design of 5,000 square feet. To begin the Home Outside Design process, visit http://www.jmmds.com/create/home-outside-design. Information on full-service designs for residential or institutional properties is also available at http://www.jmmds.com.

About Julie Moir Messervy

With three decades of experience, numerous high-profile lectures and six books, including the award-winning Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love (The Taunton Press, 2009), Messervy has emerged as a leader of a movement in which landscape design is as much a personal journey as it is about leaving a unique imprint upon the earth. Her latest book, The Toronto Music Garden: Inspired by Bach, was released in November 2009. Messervy is the principal of Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio (JMMDS) in Saxtons River, Vermont. We are driven to create value for authors, brands, and clients, and the opportunity to do so together, through broad-based digital development of innovative and interactive engagement with consumers and readers, is enormously appealing to us,” says Markus Dohle. “We intend to provide our new Smashing Ideas colleagues with abundant resources to help them grow as a profit center, as well as a creative force.”

“We are thrilled by both the opportunity to be part of the Bertelsmann and Random House organizations and by their belief in our company. We’re delighted to be a part of their publishing future. We look forward to collaborating on the building of next-generation digital businesses while we continue to build the Smashing Ideas clients base,” says Stephen Jackson. “Being part of one of the world’s great publishing companies will give the Smashing Ideas team access to new global customers within the publishing world and also in many other business categories as we extend our leadership position across all digital platforms around the world.”

Pet Hub Releases Smartphone Scannable Pet ID Tag that Connects to Pets? ?Digital Paw Prints?

Pet Hub Releases Smartphone Scannable Pet ID Tag that Connects to Pets’ “Digital Paw Prints”

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 2, 2011

Pet Hub, Inc., announced today the nationwide release of the Pet Hub Link™ tag: a pet ID tag that uses new QR coding to reconnect lost pets with their owners. These increasingly popular 2-dimensional barcodes are engraved on the Link tag and quickly read by freely available software on iPhone, ‘Droid and other cell phones displaying the pet’s webpage on PetHub.com. “What’s cool about this easy approach,” said Tom Arnold, President and founder of PetHub, Inc., “is that while the physical tag remains unchanged, the pet owner can modify the pet’s online profile to control what’s shown when that tag is scanned with a cell phone.”

While one side of the metal Link ID tag has the laser-etched 2D barcode, the other side has a human-readable web address. “While we’re not trying to replace micro chipping, the obvious benefit of our tag is that anyone with a phone or a computer can help get a lost animal back home quickly and skip the step of going to a shelter or veterinarian’s office to find a special scanner,” noted Arnold. Unlike micro chipping, which research shows only 5% of animals in the United States have, and of those animals, 58% of the contact information is outdated, PetHub Link tags are easily updated by owners with the click of a mouse. When a pet goes missing, PetHub allows the user to control how people can contact them. In addition, the owner can update the pet’s profile on PetHub.com to show such important and timely information as the pet’s medications, current vaccinations, licenses, and pertinent past medical history. “In our Beta testing we found many of our users worried about their pet’s old ID tags which showed their phone number or home address,” commented Arnold. “They liked the option PetHub.com offers where they can list their vet or ‘doggie daycare’ as their contact instead.”

Pet Hub also has a simple “Contact Pet Owner” button option that protects privacy while allowing direct notification to the pet owner. PetHub.com acts as a proxy allowing someone who found a lost pet to contact the owner through the website effectively protecting the pet owner’s personal email address while making them easy to reach. “Providing that ‘Contact Pet Owner’ button, where we act as a go-between, is an example of a feature that came out of our beta testing where a lost pet wearing a Pet Hub tag was safely and happily re-united with its owners,” said Arnold.

During the month of March 2011, PetHub.com is expanding its offer of free Pet ID tags (plus $ 3 for shipping) beyond Seattle. “We focused initially on Seattle to determine our processes and connect with our users more easily. Now we’re ready to give out tags nationwide,” said Arnold. “We etched and shipped over 3,000 tags completely free. Starting March 31, we’ll start charging $ 9 for the tag, plus $ 3 for shipping.” When asked why PetHub.com is giving away the free tags, Arnold responded, “We simply want more feedback.”

Over the next few months PetHub.com will roll-out a subscription model for premium services available to both pet owners and pet businesses. “When one out of three pets is either lost or stolen in its lifetime, our goal is to help people keep their pets safe both with the pet tags and our directory of screened service providers, such as sitters, walkers, vets, trainers, breeders, rescue shelters, and others,” said Arnold. “These trusted providers can then share and contribute to the animal’s online records. Imagine being at work and getting a text that Rover’s account had a new entry from the dog sitter saying they were able to get into the house okay and had a great walk with the dog. As a pet owner, a simple text update like that is a good feeling. We’re more than just the Link ID tag, we keep your pet connected,” concluded Arnold.

Pet Hub, Inc., is an Angel funded start-up in the Seattle, Washington, area founded by Tom Arnold, a 20-year veteran of the software industry. Tom has two cats and a new 15-week old puppy he’s training for Avalanche Search & Rescue work. “Your Pet Connected.” and “Pet Hub Link” are trademarks of Pet Hub, Inc. Pet Hub Link ID Tags are patent pending. Copyright 2011, Pet Hub, Inc. All rights reserved.

Life Preserver Digital Archiving Introduces Scanning Service to Help Preserve Memories from Catastrophic Loss

Life Preserver Digital Archiving Introduces Scanning Service to Help Preserve Memories from Catastrophic Loss

Life Preserver Digital Archiving

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 20, 2007

What would you do if you lost all your photos? Life Preserver Digital Archiving, LLC announces its new archiving service targeted to help baby boomers preserve analog photographs, negatives, slides, 8mm and Super-8 movies, VHS, and more. Unfortunately, as many Southern Californians recently realized, disaster preparedness must include a way to easily gather and transport the family’s most precious belongings: their photographs and home movies. In the event that their original collection is lost, replacements of equal (or better) quality may be produced easily.

Life Preserver uses the highest quality scanners and a proprietary scanning system to ensure the best digital transfer of media. All their scanning is done at Life Preserver’s Los Angeles based facility. Life Preserver also examines each photo, digitally repairing any that have faded or suffered damage. Once this process is complete, Life Preserver loads all of the digital media onto DVDs or external hard drives and delivers them back, along with the original photos, to the customer.

In recent years there has been an explosive growth of photo sharing over the internet, but baby boomers and their parents have been categorically excluded from sharing their photos digitally, until now. Life Preserver helps them transfer their photos, which have been sitting on shelves and aging in closets, to be shared across a digital medium. Once the photos have joined the digital world, the possibilities are extraordinary. We can generate prints, photo albums, and framed pictures. We work intimately with our clients to make slideshows, scrapbooks, and tons of other photography projects with 100% satisfaction guaranteed or the scanning is free!

One-of-a-kind photographs and previously inaccessible 8mm films are now accessible to younger generations and can be shared with ease among extended family members.

About Life Preserver Digital Archiving, LLC

Life Preserver Digital Archiving was founded in 2006 to help families preserve, protect, and share their family photographs and home movies. Led by two young entrepreneurs, James Myers (Brown University, 2006) and Nicholas Dazé (USC, 2006), Life Preserver allows families to protect their analog media collections against catastrophic loss and to duplicate and share their photographs, slides, and film with loved ones. Life Preserver is based in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

Broadband Networked Households Present Sizeable, Lucrative Target for Digital Electronics Vendors

Broadband Networked Households Present Sizeable, Lucrative Target for Digital Electronics Vendors

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 1, 2005

A new study from The Diffusion Group, the leading strategic research consultancy focused on the digital home and connected consumer, finds that US households that have both a broadband connection and a home network are much more likely to either own or be inclined to purchase new digital electronic platforms.

Broadband Networked Households: Profiling the New Media Home, the latest of TDG’s Consumer Snapshots, also finds the broadband networked households are moving from single- to multi-unit penetration in digital consumer electronic categories. For example, 29% of broadband networked households now own three or more DVD players, up from 13% in 2004.

“By year-end 2005, there will be approximately 25 million US broadband networked households – a sizeable and influential segment of consumers,” says Dale Gilliam, director of primary research at TDG and co-author of the new study. “But describing broadband networked households is no longer simply a matter of describing early technology adopters – it is more about consumer electronic and media purchasing habits than it is new technology adoption. Simply stated, broadband networked households tend to own significantly more media devices than other US households. Of course, these devices are increasingly digital, but this has more to do with price reductions and peer group recommendations than with early adopter tendencies such as novelty or first-adopter status.”

TDG’s latest report, Broadband Networked Households: Profiling the New Media Home, provides a comprehensive overview of consumer electronic ownership among US households that use both a broadband connection and a home network. The study also includes a detailed, room-by-room snapshot of device location within the home for consumer electronic devices including DVD players, PVRs/DVRs, stand-alone home stereos, stereo speakers, TVs, game consoles, desktop PCs, and laptop PCs. The report also includes trending data on the penetration of a variety of consumer electronic devices within the various rooms of the home.
